The Institute of Optoelectronic Systems and Microtechnology (ISOM) is a multidepartmental research institute, based at the ETSI de Telecomunicación. It is made up of about 50 people, including researchers, doctoral students, technicians and administrative and service personnel. It has 400 m2 of clean rooms and 500 m2 of characterization, instrumentation and electronics laboratories. Its researchers are part of two consolidated research groups: the ISOM Semiconductor Devices Group (GDS-ISOM) and the ISOM Magnetic Devices Group (GDM-ISOM).
ISOM was founded in 2000 and was declared a Major Scientific Facility in 2001. It is currently part of the Micro and Nanofabrication Clean Room Network (MICRONANOFABS), declared a Singular Scientific and Technical Facility (ICTS) by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.
