We are a group of 19 teaching staff and researchers, and the majority of us belong to the Continuous Media Mechanics and Theory of Structures Department at the School for Roads, Canals and Ports Engineers. We are a team consisting of vastly experienced professors, young professors and a group of researchers and students united by our passion for structural engineering. Our aim is to place our knowledge and research and technology abilities at the service of the structural engineering sector, without forgetting the educational component. We consider that a key part of our research is testing and we have the Structures Laboratory for this.

Our work covers research in the field of structural engineering, and teaching and outreaching knowledge in this branch of Civil Engineering. Our lines of research are as follows:
- Analysis of structures against complex loading conditions.
- Instrumentation and monitoring structures.
- Structural concrete and steel.
- Dynamic analysis and cancellation of vibrations.
- Structural fatigue and behaviour in the medium and long term.
- Resistance to impact and high strain rate.
- Use of special materials: concrete with fibres, high performance, FRP, etc.
- Historic masonry structures.
- Dynamic analysis and cancel of vibrations
- Earthquake Engineering
- Fatigue and long term behaviour
- Historic masonry structures
- Impact resistance
- Instrumentation and monitoring of structures
- Structural concrete and structural steel
- Structural instability
- Structural optimization
- Use of special materials: FRC, FRP
We have carried out projects in collaboration with companies and R&D centres, trying to find solutions for unconventional engineering problems in the field of structures. We have worked with structures such as bridges, walkways, buildings, frameworks, sleepers and pilings.
We work with traditional materials such as concrete, steel and bricks, and also special materials, above all fibre-reinforced concrete (FRC), including high performance FRC, and fibre-reinforced polymers (FRP). We consider that the combination and modern and traditional materials can provide future solutions for constructing structures.
We have experience in developing models and carrying out medium and large scale testing. To do this, we have a specialist scientific infrastructure in the Structures Laboratory at the Road Engineers School, highlights of which are dynamic equipment for load application, a dynamic exciter, and a drop tower for impact testing. We also do instrumentation and monitoring of real structures.
