We are a multi-disciplinary team of 22 people from three schools at the UPM: HTSE for Industry, HTSE Naval and HTSE for Mines and Energy. Furthermore, some members are also a part of the "Guillermo Velarde" Nuclear Fusion Institute at the UPM. Half of the Group's members are beginning their careers as researchers, carrying out their doctoral theses. So we can say that we are a young, forward-looking team. Our research seeks to provide improvements to safety when using nuclear energy and ionising radiation in their various applications.

The group habitually participates in various European research projects (EURATOM Framework Programme). We belong to the SNETP, NERIS and EURADOS platforms. We have also taken part in the development of the SEANAP (Spanish Pressurised Water Core Analysis System), put in place to simulate its operation at several nuclear power plants (Ascó I and II and Vandellós).
We are involved with two University-Business Chairs at the UPM with the Nuclear Safety Council: the "Federico Goded" Chair in the HTSE for Industry and the "Juan Manuel Kindelán" Chair in the HTSE for Mines and Energy. We have an interactive graphic simulator of a PWR-type nuclear power station in the José Cabrera Hall , which was, in its day, funded by Gas Natural-Fenosa (now Naturgy). We also have a laboratory for measurements with neutrons and advanced IT equipment.
We take part in the University Masters in Nuclear Science and Technology and Energy Engineering, as well as the "Sustainable, Nuclear and Renewable Energy" Doctoral Programme. We coal collaborate in the Erasmus Mundus Master SARENA ( Safe and Reliable Nuclear Applications ), coordinated by the IMT Atlantique University (Nantes).
