The Centre for Biotechnology and Plant Genomics (CBPG) is a mixed research centre between the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and the National Institute of Agricultural Research and Technology (INIA).
The creation of the CBPG arose from the perception of a two-fold need: to continue doing basic research at a competitive level and respond to the demand for new products, processes and services relating to plant biology from economic agents. Over the last few years, plant biology know-how has increased at an unprecedented speed.
The main reason has been the development of innovative technologies that enable global, efficient analysis of the genome's structure, information and expression.
