Technique for recording the electrical activity of cell cultures with high temporal and spatial resolution. Extracellular electrophysiology service using the Multichannel Systems MEA 2100 microelectrode array system.
Neurology, physiology, electrophysiology, optogenetics.
Technique for recording the electrical activity of cell cultures with high temporal and spatial resolution. It makes it possible to see the effect that a particular drug has on the activity of the culture, as it can be recorded over many days, and to analyse changes over time.
Using this equipment, it is possible to record the electrical activity of a culture under chemical or physical stress and also to stimulate in vitro cell cultures (neurones and cardiomyocytes) and tissues (brain and heart) electrically. Example of use: effect of light stimuli on retina cells.
This equipment offers a technology which is essential and fundamental for understanding learning and plasticity mechanisms, ageing processes and neurodegenerative diseases, epilepsy models and autism, and also for evaluating the behaviour of electrogenic cell cultures (neurons; heart, retina or muscle cells; differentiated stem cells) under exposure to drugs or harmful substances. The MEA equipment can be combined with microscopy equipment, imaging techniques and optical stimulation to enable innovative optogenetic methodologies.
