Teaching and research laboratory in the field of exercise physiology, with different pieces of equipment for measuring and assessing physical fitness, such as a cycloergometer, for treadmill stress tests, a lactate measuring device and a portable gas analyser.

This laboratory can be used for research and teaching in the field of exercise physiology. Stress tests can be carried out, as well as tests to evaluate and monitor the performance of athletes, physically active individuals and even sedentary individuals who wish to assess their physical fitness. Using stress tests, it is possible to assess a person's cardiac and respiratory response to physical exercise, physical fitness and the body¿s response to physical exertion.
The laboratory receives a great many undergraduate and postgraduate students each year and carries out intense research activity through the scientific services provision project. Those services include stress tests for any individual, whether or not they are athletes, for patients at risk of heart disease, in order to assess and improve performance, and for competitive and non-competitive research projects. Stress tests are direct tests that are carried out with respiratory gas analysis (ergospirometry) and the cardiac response is assessed by means of an electrocardiogram (ECG). They are applicable to the whole population, both those individuals who are starting to train and those who regularly do physical exercise. Being able to exercise safely is a social need, which can only be met with exercise cardiorespiratory assessments such as a stress test.
The Exercise Physiology Laboratory is part of the Community of Madrid Laboratory and Infrastructure Network, with registration number 214. The researchers belong to the Department of Health and Human Performance.
