The bioinformatic analysis of data from mass sequencing is fundamental to the majority of genomic projects. Even though many of the methods and protocols required are considered standard, their use is subject to the available computational capacity of each research group, as well as the availability of staff qualified to use high-performance computation infrastructure. In this context, the Bioinformatic Support Unit (BSU) of the Centre for Biotechnology and Plant Genomics (Centro de Biotecnología y Genómica de Plantas [CBGP UPM-INIA]), as part of the Computational/Systems Biology Programme (CsBGP) of the CBGP¿s Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence strategic plan, was set up to respond to the high demand for processing and analysis of ¿omics¿ data, principally from next-generation sequencing (NGS) platforms.
Its main objectives are to offer a complete data genomics processing, analysis, computation and interpretation service. To supervise and manage the use of high-performance cluster computing (HPC) and the data storage system.
