A ETSAM-UPM student granted by the Renzo Piano Foundation

During six months, Gonzalo Ortega will work at the study of the renowned architect Renzo Piano, author of such notable projects as the Pompidou Center or the Kansai Osaka Airport, in Genova.

Working on an international renowned firm is a dream for any student of architecture. For Gonzalo Ortega, student at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura (ETSAM) from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) the dream has become real thanks to a grant bestowed by the Renzo Piano Foundation.

Ortega has been selected among more than 50 applicants in the frame of an international contest of merits. He will work during six months with a contract of practices in the study of the renowned architect Renzo Piano, in Genova. The Italian architect is the author of notable works such as the Pompidou Center in Paris, France, or the international airport of Kansai Osaka, Japan.  

Gonzalo Ortega scholarship is endowed with 8,500 euros. The grant also facilitates the accommodation facilities of the Renzo Piano Foundation, very close to the study of architecture, a box of glass and canvas delicately posada in terraces on the Genovese coast.

The Renzo Piano Building Workshop Program is aimed at students enrolled at 12 prestigious international Schools of Architecture.  Through this initiative the Renzo Piano Foundation provides students an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experiences and skills. The aim is that young people can overcome the gap between the theoretical knowledge to the practical development of an architectural project, involved as a professional in Renzo Piano´s team.

The Renzo Piano Building Workshop Program is aimed at students enrolled at 12 prestigious international Schools of Architecture. UPM is the only Spanish university. Others are Harvard, Columbia, Rice, AA Londres, Tsinghua, Monterrey, Praga, París-Malaquais, Cept Ahmedabad, Cape Town, Brasilia and Génova.

ETSAM-UPM  is considered one of the most prestigious Centers in their areas of specialization.  Among their students we can find internationally-acclaimed architects just as the Spanish National Prize of Architecture Juan Navarro Baldeweg, Miguel Fisac, Matilde Ucelay, Manuel de las Casas or Antonio Ortiz, as well as Antonio Palacios or Alberto Campo Baeza awarded with the Tessenow Gold Medal 2013 and the Arnold Brunner Memorial Prize 2013 of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. All of them have walked its halls as well as played a crucial role of professors in the formation of the young generations of architects.
