Presentation | Goals The goal of the Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering (MUIB) is the training of professionals who apply the principles and methods of engineering to the understanding, definition and resolution of problems in biology and medicine. This area of knowledge called Biomedical Engineering (BME) requires a multidisciplinary training that allows a high-level specialization to generate, integrate and apply scientific, technological and business knowledge to the most important biomedical challenges. These professionals must be prepared to work both in research and industrial environments. The master's degree involves 15 departments and 6 teaching and research centers of the UPM. Most teachers have a recognized trajectory, many of them have more than 20 years of teaching experience. Likewise, 22 experts from other universities, hospitals, companies and postgraduate centers participate in seminars and invited talks. Structure of the teaching plan The structure of the MUIB aims to expand the curriculum to better accommodate both graduates of the new bachelor degrees in BME and from other engineering degrees, both from the UPM and from other universities in Spain. The structure of the teaching plan (60 ECTS) consists of 6 thematic modules following the current educational guidelines of the UPM. This modular structure encompasses the compulsory and optional subjects of the master's degree, taking into account thematic affinities. The curriculum offers subjects that help students to train and better identify their future professional profiles, among the most demanded in BME, such as working in MedTech companies or in research centers. Two main specialties are included: 1) The specialty "Biomedical Technologies", has an essentially technological focus and delves into the main areas of BME, being aimed at engineering graduates who have not completed specific degree studies in BME. 2) The specialty "Management and Innovation in Healthcare Technologies", has a focus on the aspects of management and innovation in medical technologies, and is oriented to BME graduates. The Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering is integrated within EIT Health's Master in Technological Innovation in Health (MTiH) program, whose mission is to train a new generation of engineers capable of identifying health problems, imagining the solution and transforming it into viable commercial products through the creation of new companies or adding value to existing businesses. The program has the prestigious EIT Label, a certificate of quality and excellence for educational programs that focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity and leadership. Students selected to participate in the program must complete a mobility at Sorbonne Uniersity, University of Grenoble Alpes or University of Lisbon (30 ECTS); carry out an internships in companies (15 ECTS) and complete their master thesis in a non-academic environment (15 ECTS). The total duration of the program is 90 ECTS. |
