Presentation

The Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP), the Quantum Technologies Platform (QTEP) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and various Spanish universities have developed the program for the Official Master's Degree in Quantum Technologies.

Máster Universitario en Tecnologías Cuánticas / Master in Quantum Technologies from Universidad de La Laguna; Universidad de Murcia; Universidad de Zaragoza; Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo; Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena; Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Universitat de València (Estudi General).

The field of quantum technologies is a priority research area in Europe, the USA, China, Canada, Australia, and Japan, among other developed regions. In Europe, this area was articulated around the Quantum Technologies Flagship, initiated by the European Commission in 2019, and now replaced by Cluster 4 of Horizon Europe in collaboration with similar initiatives in Digital Europe, ESA, EIC, and other research and innovation departments. In Spain, quantum technologies are also included in the Spanish Science, Technology, and Innovation Strategy 2021-2027, as well as in different strategic actions funded by recovery funds and ERDF funds from the Autonomous Communities.

This official recognition occurs because quantum technologies have transitioned from the academic world to the business environment, with a growing economic impact. This impact materializes through an exponentially growing number of startups, which complement or supplement initiatives organized by established companies.

The coexistence of large public and public-private research projects, with a growing business demand for personnel with a technical and scientific profile, exerts enormous pressure on the labor market. This is because the profiles urgently demanded are only found in the postdoctoral market: researchers who have acquired the interdisciplinary experience required through a doctorate and one or more stages of independent research.

The project presented is an integrated training program aimed at graduates of technical and scientific careers and professionals from technological, communication, and service companies. The master's degree proposes comprehensive education in the field of quantum technologies, at the level of advanced development and user. The master's orientation is dual: research and professional (non-regulated).

The graduating students will be experts in quantum algorithms, advanced quantum theory (quantum optics and condensed matter physics), and technical and experimental aspects of quantum hardware development. The comprehensive training offered will qualify them for pursuing a doctoral degree or for joining technology companies.
