The emergence of sustainability related problems from industrial production have been a hot discussion topic for academia, industry and policy-makers. Acknowledging the fact that industry is central to the economies of modern societies and many of our needs can be met only through products and services provided by industry as stated by United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development (UN, 1987), it is necessary and valid to ask the question of how to transform the existing industrial production routines so that industrial production would be more ecologically and socially balanced. Such a concern could be addressed only by considering both social and technical aspects which form the current routines of industrial production systems. | |
