Nowadays, vibration serviceability is one of the critical criteria in the design process of structures. This is a difficult task for students that should understand a difficult theoretical background to design considering this vibration serviceability state. A scaled structural model was built to correlate the theoretical equations with the physical behaviour. From this model, students extract the modal parameters experimentally only using of a mobile phone, as well as numerically and they compare both results with a discussion on the influence of the parameters used in the structural design. Finally, they propose solutions, like tuned mass dampers, to reduce vibrations and increase life-cycle of structures. | |
