Descripción
The use of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) in structures offers undoubted advantages with respect to conventional concrete (RC), increasing its ductility and flexural strength and improving crack control [1]. The construction of multi-layer beams and slabs, where the top and bottom layers use SFRC with RC used in the middle layer, represents an economical alternative to the construction of structures using solely SFRC. The top and bottom layers have to withstand greater stress as a result of the beams and slabs bending and it is where cracking can be seen, which is why these are the areas where SFRC is most needed. The middle layer is such structures connects the top and bottom. Here, the advantages of using SFRC is less important. The use of this strategy has been successfully substantiated experimentally in multi-layer beams and slabs manufactured from RC and light concrete (LC) [2]. However, very little information is available regarding the behaviour of multilayer beams made from SFRC. Satisfactory results have been obtained from experiments on dual-layer SFRC and RC beams and slabs [3], although apparently, there has been no research into the behaviour of three-layer structures. The main aim of this research is to study the flexural behaviour of multi-layer beams which use SFRC on the outer layers and RC in the middle. To this end, two types of multi-layer beams have been produced, with their flexural capacity tested to breaking point. The results have been compared with those obtained when testing monolithic RC and SFRC beams. (Fig. 1). Values of Ductility obtained from multi-layered beams, measured in terms of energy or displacement, are twice than the values released from monolithic beams, as a consequence of similar moments reached for all beams, but lower values of final displacements obtained by monolithic beams than multi-layered beams.
