Descripción
Rehabilitation works performed on façades force to place external scaffolding attached to them [1]. The set of external actions that jeopardize the structural role of a scaffold are easily reproducible and allow obtaining the internal stresses on each of its elements. However, while studies have been found which experimentally analyze the pull-out behavior of anchors from tests carried out on brick samples, there are hardly any studies that show results on authentic on-site brick masonry walls [2,6]. This work shows the results obtained in steel eye-bolt anchors, inserted in plastic sleeves, in centuries old authentic solid brick masonry in different situations: placed at the wall height, placed in different position in relation to the brick unit and different length of the anchoring insertion. Requirements and assessment and test methods for this fixing types are set out in the Guideline for European Technical Approval of Plastic Anchors for Multiple Use in Concrete and Masonry for non-structural applications (ETAG-020, 2012) [8]. The document has been drawn up by the experts committee of the European Organization for Technical Approval (EOTA). The Part 4 of the document sets out the verification methods, as well as the assessment methods of the fastening systems for their use.) [8]. Average force pulling values of 4,94 kN in anchors located at the piece center and 3.40 kN in anchors located at the pointing for the same load situations, temperature and humidity have been obtained. These results provide the sizing of anchors with a precise knowledge of their resistance, as well as allowing the establishment of guidelines for a more efficient placement of anchors in brick walls. As these are real-life on-site situations, the conclusions reached are of direct application in the design of structures of scaffolding and work platforms. The testing work has allowed to compare the real values obtained in centuries-old brick masonry walls with the experimental values obtained in previous works published with laboratory specimens (CEB, 1994 [fig.1]; González et al, pp [6,7]. We can see that the test values from real brick walls show average value results, associated to the tested brick masonry decomposition degree and moisture.
