In order to gain a better understanding about the relations between the economical activity of a country and its social structure, we have analysed the impact of groundnut agriculture on the population of Senegal. This work is inspired by the economic and demographic relevance of the agricultural sector in Senegal, which employs over 70% of the labor force. To this end, we have built several networks based on mobile phone traffic data. By analysing the information extracted from these networks and contextualizing it with vegetation indexes data, we have been able to find interesting correlations that suggest a strong influence of agricultural activities on society and its communication and mobility networks. | |
